I
have tried a lot of different pedals over the 8 years I have been riding.
From Time
ATAC
to various
Shimano etc etc. But these take the biscuit. I do suffer from the occasional
knee twinge
So
I went out to find some pedals with a reasonable amount of float, good mud
clearance and which were reasonably light. The Speedplay frog seemed to stand out from the crowd, they are rather costly, especially
here in the
UK
, (hence I managed to get some imported).
Firstly
the cleat system is totally unique, the action required to engage the pedal is
sort of a slide and push motion, it’s easy to get used to, and their new
cleats fit most shoes. With the old cleats you sometimes had to cut away some
of the sole of the shoe for it to fit.
Unclipping
is easy and very similar to Time
ATAC
pedals. The amount of float is incredible and since I have been using these
pedals my knees have been totally fine, mud clearance is great to, although
sometimes if they get plastered in thick mud you have to sort of mash your
foot around on the pedal to clear the mud off.
I
have just replaced the bearings after 2 years, and spares are really easy to
get now in the
UK
.
Weight
is 240g for the pair, half the weight of the lightest Shimano or time pedals.
