XTR Disc Brake Review

A This should be your first port of call if you are interested in doing a polaris challenge, i have done 7 events now, and hopefully i can pass on some tips and info i have learnt over the years.

XTR
XTR disc Brake system
Duration product Used 3 years
price paid £198 from chain reaction cycles

I swapped over to XTR from Hope brakes 10 months ago.

The setup is XT levers and rotors, with XTR callipers and it works great.

Personally I really like these brakes, there are very well made, are very light and the braking performance is excellent. (in my opinion anyway). The braking modulation is very good , giving you good feedback and Control over braking , and being an open system heat expansion is not an issue . I would say  these brakes are not as powerful as the hope mini’s but there pretty close.

There are pro’s and con’s to every system, with the open system the pads are held back via some small springs these are not really good enough to push back the pads , so the pads do tend to rub against the rotors.

As yet I have had no issues with these brakes at all, the pad wear has been fantastic. (gold sintered pads)

Bottom Line Love em to bits , go and buy now
Value Rating 4/5
Overall Rating 5/5
