Perhaps bucking the trend here but I wouldn't get that hung up on brakes as anything half decent works well enough,Magura,Shimano,Hopes,Avids etc...
You pull them & they stop you,simples..... :)

when it comes down to it, you are right...

remember my 1st full suss came with hayes sole and you cant get much more basic than those, but they worked well enough for me to do lots of cannock, peaks, wales and trail centre rides :D

right.. been a bit of a tit when bleeding my brakes, and suffice to say, my brakes are covered in DOT 4. Tried Turps, Isopropyl alcohol and even disc brake cleaner..

jet washed it, and i still cant seem to get any braking power from the front brake.

there is tonnes of pressure in the lever, no mush, but no stopping power.

what can i use to get this sh!t off?

Noo. I'm allergic to that stuff. Still got the burn mark across my hand where I had an allergic reaction to it.

Perhaps expensive for what they are but I got some Hope Tech X2's and apart from the bling factor with colour on the rotors, I have to say they really are good compared to my Avid Juicy 3's and Avid Elixir R's.

They ain't grabby unlike the Elixirs which can catch you out if you pull too quick/hard, they seem to slow you in a smoother fashion and I love the feel of those levers, a nice chunky reasuringly solid feel to them, The juicy 3's keep fading and I was having to do the old upside down with laccy bands over the levers overnight trick, pain in the ar$e, also the floating rotor thing really does work, I was skeptical at first but I've none of that annoying 'shing, shing, shing', even in crap weather which I get with Avid brakes.

Not tried the Xt's though to compare.

I upgraded my lad's specialized hardrock to SLX's about 18 months ago, they were recommended by they Spesh dealer where I bought it they've been ace and my new hardtail has them and I've found them very good.

Thinking about replacing the Hayes 9 front on my stinky to an SLX, won't look right but makes buying pads easier.
